The following top-level domains have been approved by ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) as of May 11, 2001:
- .biz - for businesses
- .info - open to anyone
Others being considered are:
- .coop - for non-profit cooperatives
- .aero - for the air transportation industry
- .museum - for museums
- .name - for individuals/personal sites
- .pro - for accountants, lawyers and physicians
